Meet the Exec

President: Natalie Tiu

Hi, my name is Natalie and I’m this year’s president. Action is a student-led volunteer group that wants to give something back to the community that has become our home whilst studying in Leeds. I believe that individuals can make a huge difference, and when we all come together to work for the community we can have a very positive impact. Whether it’s an after school club, a weekend adventure holiday or an evening in a local hospice, Action volunteers use their free time working hard to help others, and have a lot of fun whilst doing it!

We want to make it easy for you to help the people around you, which is why Action has no membership fees and a simple online sign-up system. We take our volunteers’ welfare very seriously, which is why you will receive full training before going on any project and will be offered further opportunities to develop your skills throughout the year. We also want to make Action a community in itself, which is why we will be holding a lot of socials and events to help you get to know like-minded people and relax after a day’s volunteering.

We run projects with children, older people and the environment, and are always looking for more opportunities to provide for the needs of the community. Our project-coordinators are friendly and approachable, and supported by the Exec, a team of students dedicated to running Action. If you have any questions, ideas or just want a chat about your volunteering options, don’t hesitate to e-mail me, one of the Exec or a project co-ordinator. You can also come and visit us in the Volunteering & Community Office during one of our drop in sessions.

If you want to make a real difference to people’s lives, we want to hear from you!

Publicity Coordinators: Natasha Lummes and Lewis Holloway

width=Hello, my name is Tash and I’m one half of the publicity role. My predominant aim is to get as many people as possible on board on the various projects that we have going on. I'm here to publicise all the great work that the Action team is doing so that everyone can get involved. It’s such a good way to do something contrasting with academic studies, something that genuinely enriches the lives of others. It is always a great way to meet like minded people as well.
If you have any a project co-ordinator and your project is in need of advertising or you have a special event coming up, drop me and Lewis an email and we can get publicising!

Hi I'm Lewis and as graphic design executive it is my role to approach project coordinators in order to produce publications and publicity material so as to advertise their events to the best of their advantage. As a graphic design student, this is something I thoroughly enjoy doing and I hope will help to develop my studies. Of course, the social side and the opportunity to meet new people all the time is another aspect of my role that I enjoy.

Hey, I'm Jenny and I am Action's Equality and Diveristy Officer.  I am currently working in volunteer recruitment to try and encourage different students from various backgrounds to come and volunteer with Action.  Leeds is a vibrant and diverse city and Action is striving to have a membership that is reflective of our local community. I will also be supporting project co-ordinators to develop an equal and diverse structure for each of their current projects, to ensure we can make Action as accessible and enjoyable for every member.  If you have any queries/suggestions about my role or for Action in general, do not hesitate to email me! :)

Training Coordinator: Claudia Maclean

width= Howdy, I'm Claudia, the training coordinator for action, so you'll probably see quite a bit of me as I do a lot of the inductions and child protection sessions. My
role involves providing all volunteers with the necessary training
that allows them to feel comfortable to go out on our projects. We want everyone to be safe and equally as importantly, to feel confident enough to have masses of fun. I also make
sure all the project coordinators have all the skils and training to equip them to lead the projects and conform to legal regulations. If you have any queries about the inductions or child protections or there is any training that you
think would be beneficial to volunteers that isn't already available,
please feel free to email me, I'll get back to you quickly!  Action's great fun so get involved, and I look forward to seeing you at training soon.
