Note: You must be a University of Leeds Student to apply for these positions. Experience is not necessary but passion for student volunteering is a must. All of these positions are voluntary but are excellent ways to gain skills, improve your CV and make friends! All of our coordinators are students so it is a role that is definitely manageable alongside your studies - even if you are going into your final year. So go for it and apply!
1. Projects
There are many volunteering opportunities available in the community - there should be something to suit everyone’s tastes. Action coordinates projects with children, older people and the environment. Projects run frequently throughout the year, so there will always be something to get involved in, whether it is every week or just once a term. There are two types of projects: student-led and referral projects. Student-led projects are run entirely by student coordinators and volunteers. The project coordinators are elected at the Action AGM, which is held in March. Referral projects are run by external groups in the community; in this situation Action acts as a link between the volunteering opportunities and the volunteers.
2. Driving, Publicity, Fundraising, Sponsorship, Socials
As well as the project volunteers we have a series of ‘teams’ which help our projects to run. These teams offer a different set of skills and experiences to those which projects offer, and any additional help in these areas is always greatly appreciated.
3. Running Action itself
Action is run by an executive committee made up of volunteers. The ‘exec’ is elected at the AGM in March. So, to sum up, Action is all about:
- Helping out in the local community
- Gaining skills and experiences
- Enhancing CVs And having fun!
To find out more, email us on info@leedsaction.co.uk or come to our drop in hours 1.30pm till 3pm Monday to Friday in the Volunteering Office. This is the ideal time to meet committee members (the 'exec') to ask us any questions about how to get more involved or what we do in Action. Please come along for a natter otherwise we will be very bored; between us we will also have been on pretty much every project so ask us about our experiences!
