On Friday 11th February, Japanese Society has organised their very own ‘Tanabata’ Star Festival based on an ancient festival originating in China that has been celebrated in Japan for hundreds of years.
Elaborate paper decorations that fill the hall, captivating performances of Japanese music and dance, tea ceremony, food stalls and experts to help participants to discover their hidden talent for origami, calligraphy and wearing Yukata (cotton kimono) that will transport you 6000 miles east to the land of the rising sun.
Japanese Society are inviting children from four local schools to come and experience this festival, and they need volunteers to help supervise the children and take part in the activities!
Each session lasts two hours, starting at 9am; you can sign up for just one, or more if you have the time. This promises to be a magical event so sign up now!
