Inductions
For all our new members, inductions start on Monday! They last for one hour and go through some very important information about volunteering with Action. You can sign up on the website, and you will have to attend one before you volunteer.
Child Protection Training
Action has changed its policy regarding child protection, and we have decided that it’s in the interest of both the children we work with and all our volunteers to make attendance of a child protection training session mandatory before volunteers are activated on our website.
The course is extremely informative and is designed to make you feel more confident and knowledgeable when working with vulnerable children. You will also receive a certificate of attendance that certifies you to level one of the Leeds Safeguarding Children Board’s training standards, which is a great thing to have on your CV!
Again, you can sign up for this on our website.
CRB Forms
Unfortunately due to extremely high demand, the Volunteering and Community Office has temporarily run out of CRB forms. We are hoping to get some delivered by the end of the week, and apologise for the delay that it will cause some of our new members in signing up. Remember that whilst you’re waiting to fill out a CRB form you can still submit your references and attend the necessary training session.
Social
We will be holding another social this week. The details are still being worked out, so keep an eye out on the events page or join our facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2215242989) so you can get an invite as soon as the event is made!
Project Coordinator needed!
We’re still looking for a second project coordinator for our Children’s Holiday project, which organises two 5 days holidays in the Easter and Summer breaks. Our coordinators receive full training and support, and will have a lot of fun! If you are interested, please email president@leedsaction.co.uk with a short paragraph saying 1) Why you are interested, 2)If you have any past experience working with children and 3) What skills you can bring to the project.
Screening Internship in the Volunteering and Community Office
The Volunteering and Community Office is looking for a volunteer to take up a Volunteer Screening internship. You would be required to commit 4 – 5 flexible hours a week, working in the Volunteering and Community Office to help with the running of the references system. This is a fantastic opportunity to get office experience in an extremely important part of third-sector administration! If you are interested, please contact Joanna on volunteering@luu.leeds.ac.uk with the subject “References internship”.
