3 New Exciting Opportunities to work with Older People

Leeds University Union has secured funding to develop 3 new projects working with older people in East Leeds. We’re looking for people to get involved and help coordinate these exciting projects! This is a great chance for you to develop skills in team work, planning and budgeting! (Please note, you must be a student at the University of Leeds in academic year 2011/12 to apply. A CRB check will be sought).
1) Men’s Group coordinator
The aim of the project is to enable older men, who do not have a history of accessing services, to socialise and try new activities, meeting fortnightly with other men over 60. This project is being developed in partnership with two local charities.
Two or three volunteer coordinators are being sought to run the group. You will recruit service users to attend, organise activities and recruit volunteers, with the support of members of staff in the Union.
2) Shopping trips for older people coordinator
The aim of the project is to enable older people, who are normally isolated and cannot access shops, to enjoy ‘luxury’ shopping trips. This project is being developed in partnership with two local charities.
Volunteer coordinators are being sought to run the project. You will recruit service users to attend, organise the trip and recruit volunteers,with the support of members of staff in the Union.
3) Craft group for older people volunteers
The aim of the project is to enable older people to enjoy creative activities to keep their minds active and to have fun with others.
Volunteers are being sought to organise and lead the sessions with the support of members of staff in the Union.
