Older People's Tea Party

Once a year we take around 250 older people in the community to the union for a bigger than life tea party. The event includes food, drinks, live entertainment, dancing and even a spot of bingo. Who knows you might even end up sharing a cuppa with the mayor, one of our frequent prestigious guests. Held in the refectory, we need lots of help with transport, serving food and having a good old chin-wag with our guests.

President: Seonaid Jones

Hi everyone, my name is Seonaid and I am the President of Action for the next academic year. I know that this year is going to be really great because we have a really strong enthusiastic committee supporting Action and we all want to make Action as fantastic as possible, ensuring that both volunteers and the local community get the very best out of our projects! I started volunteering on projects in my first year and have loved every minute of it; my favourite projects are the children’s residentials because I absolutely love getting to be a big kid again. I hope that you will join us to see what Action is all about and get stuck in volunteering; it is a really rewarding way to spend your spend time and to meet a whole host of interesting, lovely people!

Hi, I'm Ben the events co-ordinator. I'm responsible for organising all fundraising events for Action, as well as the socials. I'm hoping that over the next year I can help put on some great events that raise a lot of money to help Action run! If you're interested in getting involved in the events management side of Action, or have any ideas for socials/events, feel free to email me at the address above. I also have an office hour every Friday from 1pm – 2pm in the volunteering office, so come say hello!

Project Development Coordinator: Gareth Brown

Hi, my name is Gareth and I’m the Project Development Co-ordinator. My role within Action is to help, support and assist those that wish to start new projects with Action as well as looking at ways of developing existing projects. My position also involves researching and identifying new projects that could work in the local community and with other societies.
So if you have looked through the projects that we run and don’t see anything that interests you, why not start up your own? Maybe environmental projects, working with homeless or teenagers? There are lots of potential avenues to explore. For an informal chat to discuss ideas just drop me an email and we can arrange a meeting.

Publicity Coordinator: Madeleine McGarrie  

Hi there! I help to publicise Action through making and distributing the Action Handbooks and trying to get as many students as possible aware of all the fantastic volunteering that they can get involved in! I also maintain the website so if anyone needs any help with logins, or getting their account activated then get in touch! Also if any one would like to help with the many publicity aspects of Action then why not join the Avertising and Publicity Team!
