About

Welcome to Action!

Action Leeds Student Volunteers is a society within Leeds University Union which wants to prove that students can do a lot more with their time at university than just drink and sleep all day! Action is all about students having a positive impact on the local community of Leeds through volunteering projects whilst gaining important skills and experiences which will enhance their CVs. Of course getting a degree is really important to us which is why there is no pressure put on our volunteers; you can get involved as little or as much as you like!

1. Projects

There are many volunteering opportunities available in the community - there should be something to suit everyone’s tastes. Action coordinates projects with children, older people and the environment. Projects run frequently throughout the year, so there will always be something to get involved in, whether it is every week or just once a term. There are two types of projects: student-led and referral projects. Student-led projects are run entirely by student coordinators and volunteers. The project coordinators are elected at the Action AGM, which is held in March. Referral projects are run by external groups in the community; in this situation Action acts as a link between the volunteering opportunities and the volunteers.

2. Driving, Publicity, Fundraising, Sponsorship, Socials

As well as the project volunteers we have a series of ‘teams’ which help our projects to run. These teams offer a different set of skills and experiences to those which projects offer, and any additional help in these areas is always greatly appreciated.

3. Running Action itself

Action is run by an executive committee made up of volunteers. The ‘exec’ is elected at the AGM in March. So, to sum up, Action is all about:

  • Helping out in the local community
  • Gaining skills and experiences
  • Enhancing CVs And having fun!

To find out more, email us on action@luu.leeds.ac.uk or come to our drop in hours:from 1pm till 5pm Monday to Friday in the Volunteering Office. This is the ideal time to meet committee members (the 'exec') to ask us any questions about how to get more involved or what we do in Action! Please come along for a natter otherwise we will be very bored; between us we will also have been on pretty much every project so ask us about our experiences!
